Where Faeries Dance

When we went down to the woods today, guess what we saw?
The most amazing field of delicous, dangerously coloured mushrooms, and across the road these beautiful beasts. ah, the country!

Thursday

Christmas in July

What is July without candles? We go through more candles in our house over winter than pikelets (we eat a lot of pikelets!), it kindof makes up for not having a hearth, which I would truly love. The warmth, smell, and feel of these beeswax candles I had fun making just oozes Christmas. I source my beeswax (it took me a while to find a good one!) from a Huon Valley apiarist.

Treehouses - 'Beam me up Scotty'

Try as I might, I just couldn't avoid the flu this season, and my energy levels, as my stock for the next coming market are very depleted.
My mind starts to wonder about escaping the grind, and I find myself fantazising about living in a treehouse...I have always held a fascination for little houses..you know 'the cabin in the woods' type...somewhere you can escape to, some place completely self contained, small, and yet always situated in a natural environment, so you become part of the surroundings....ah...like a treehouse. I love little dwellings...gypsy caravans, tepees, treehouses. I adore these 'take it with you' Tumbleweed Houses. Part of the appeal is the fact that little houses force you to live simply, taking only essentials of life, and discarding the superfluous fluff that sometimes fills your life...Life is pared down to the things that really matter; our relationships with others.

Sunday

An island off an island

A couple of months ago, we had the blessing of staying at a friend's shack on Bruny Island....quiet, tranquil, refreshing, simple.
I wish I was there now.

Friday

Dance in my Garden has 'Gone Rustic'!

Rita from Gone Rustic, 'Nest Form - Phoenix'

My 1st Wholesale Order to Gone Rustic
A very talented lady is Rita from Gone Rustic....
Rita loves to create, especially with fibre and textiles. She enjoys the designing process as well as the actual creation of her work. Her skills are based on traditional practices, but she tries to push the boundaries and use them in unique ways.
Rita's business, is based in a converted garage in St Marys, Tasmania, Australia, that has been made into a studio and gallery, where she displays her own work, teaches classes and host exhibitions of local artisans and travelling displays through Tasmanian Regional Arts. She also works from home, especially the items made by hand which she works on during the evenings.
You can also find her work at: http://www.gonerustic.etsy.com/ and http://www.gallery37.etsy.com/.
Rita recently won 1st prize for her art quilt, "Survival" at the Tas Quilting Guild Exhibition. Well done Rita! I spotted her prize winning quilt at the Hobart Quilt and Craft Show, and loved it's earthy appeal.
I was very fortunate to have Gone Rustic as my 1st wholesale customer, and recently completed an order for 10 of my bib and washie sets. It's humbling to think they are sitting among such gorgeous creations and textiles!
If you find yourself near St Marys, be sure to visit Mt Elephant Pancakes, for some yummy indulgence, and beautiful scenery.

Thursday

Hello Sunshine

Wanting to experiment with some organic t-shirts I ordered in size 0 (Australian made cotton!) I sewed on a yellow wool felt 'sun'....size 0 is a bit of a squeeze on 'B', but you get the effect!

Monday

To market, to market

A stylish and increasingly popular craft and maker's market in Hobart, is 'the market', opposite gorgeous St David's Park, inside the masonic hall...the space is transformed into a warm, vibrant & buzzing atmosphere. You could even find inspiration to dress up your garden; one of the stall holders was Karen Wagner Garden Design. I also just loved the brooches by Little Twig. I was fortunate enough to have had a stall at a couple of months ago.

I will be there again on the 2nd of August with my ever popular bib and washie sets. I love making these, and they make a great baby gifts, & my eco friendly decorative bunting for children's rooms and parties, (let's face it, not many party decorations are reusable!) I will also be launching a new range of natural baby gift sets, and gorgeous Merino woollen baby blankets.

Friday

My Cuddly Momo

Inspired to make some baby blankets for my Etsy store, I wanted to use this gorgeous fabric panel, called Wonderland, by Momo (Moda fabrics are among my favs!), and some vintage orange chenille that I already had in my chenille stash. I knew the two fabrics would work really well together. Well it turned out ok, however I cut the chenille out on my lounge room floor at night, failing to see the fade in one corner...so while I won't sell this momo, I am really glad we get to keep it at home...here's a pic of how it turned out.
