All things yurty, and my tepee are currently on the front page.  Yeippee!

Just a lovely day at home yesterday.

little miss 'b' loving her miso soup for lunch

Pumpkin & Wholemeal Gnocchi 'rustico' for dinner.

Tuesday

It's Tuesday and I Can't Wait...

If you want to play It's Tuesday and I can't Wait..go over to Buttons by Lou Lou.

Monday

A few little projects.

On the go this week, I'm working on a commissioned felt teapot cover for Verity from Joie de Tea.  I want to also make some wands, and a bunting with an old Japanese bathrobe.

I also was thrilled to find some little timber cut-outs that resemble my 'Dance in my garden' star flowers...very happy! I'm going to turn the big one into a brooch.

Saturday

Dilly Dilly

This is a small selection of 'Dilly Bags', I have made for my Etsy store, and markets... I have some other lovely fabrics I am keen to start on; the gorgeous faerie collection by Cicely Mary Barker, some cute fabrics for the little lads in our lives, & maybe even some grown-up fabrics!
I like the idea of a drawstring bag...they can be used for so many things, library books, taking toys, or craft work out and about...laundry bag, travel bag, spare clothes bag.....
A Dilly Bag, brings out the 'gatherer' in us all!

'Lavender's Blue, dilly dilly, lavender's green,
When I am king, dilly, dilly, you shall be queen......'

Thursday

Wake up and Smell the guilt free coffee

'at home' - this is what I use

I must admit, I'm a more than a little bit passionate about my morning cuppa. Fairtrade coffee ensures that coffee growers receive a guaranteed above market price for their beans, and this has flow on effects for the whole community, ensuring better living conditions. Unfortunately slavery, and human trafficking is still rife...drinking fairtrade coffee, and choosing fairtrade products, as much as we can, ensures a louder voice against the exploitation of middle men. Coffee is the second pesticided crop in the world, and fairtrade beans come from farms which have better environmental standards, often organic. Better for them, and better for us...makes for a less bitter cup, don't you think?
You can buy your fairtrade coffee from major supermarkets now, and many cafes. You can also buy online from Jasper Coffee.
Go to Fairtrade Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

Cornflower by Natural Kids

I couldn't resist sharing this beautiful treasury by Natural Kids Team...I'm a blue girl!

Screenprinting

I'm enjoying all things screenprinted at the moment, especially after attending a screen-printing workshop on the weekend, run by Jo Wild (who also does amazing hook rugs) from Elizabeth Town. Unfortunately I couldn't stay for the whole day, but this bag featuring a stylized version of Dance in my garden's icon, was what I came home with...I didn't get to finish and tweak my design completely, but I'm fairly happy with how it's turned out, and I like the opacity of the blue.

Friday

Lovely to see ya 'Zia'

It was lovely to see my sister when she came to visit, a 3 hour trip away. Visits are infrequent, short, but very sweet. Here is little 'B' connecting with Zia 'D'.

Thursday

Fabric Finder

Jodie from the Haby Goddess, has justed posted her great newsletter, and mentioned a website called 'Sewn', which has a fabric finder. How good is that? End those fabric finding frustrations! It's website says that 'Sewn is an online website revolving around the quilting and sewing community in Australasia with a strong focus on providing a forum to connect designers, suppliers, shops and customers.' I know, I just know it won't be long before I'll try it out.

Wednesday

Saturday

Glimpse of Spring

Brussel Sprouts cuddle a Camellia.
I'm thrilled that the lovely Narelle, from Ruby Victoria Letterpress is going to be making a lino print from my photo, and will feature in a give-away soon.

Friday

Easy Corn Chowder

Winter has one very important redeeming quality; soup. It fills and warms you up, & makes you feel all happy inside! I love the big hearty type, like Chowder, Borsch, Minestrone. Pumpkin Soup is a constant, only using the best kind of pumpkin; Kent! I am also quite partial to the odd bowl of Straciatella. Seafood Chowder is one I only seem to have on Tasmanian east coast restaurants.

Here is my easy peasy recipe for Corn Chowder - I'm no masterchef, so please note quantities are sketchy, but you can make it up as you go along!

Corn Chowder

In a pot, add 1 or 2 sticks of celery (chopped), and onion (chopped) to olive oil.
Add a couple of rashers of chopped bacon. Fry gently for a couple of minutes.
Add 3 potatoes (cubed)
Add 3 fresh cobs of corn - (fresh not cooked cobs - try and do this, I promise it doesn't take up much more time, & it's a superior taste and texture to canned stuff, but IF you must use a can it will still be yummy) um..don't forget to slice the corn off the cobs before you add.
Add stock to cover. (You could add a bay leaf, but I don't).
Cook for about 20 minutes or so.
Using a handheld blender, blend just enough to get some of it creamy looking, but not enough to destroy all those lovely kernels.
Now, for the fun bit - you can add milk, or cream, or sour cream, as much or as little as you like.
Heat through gently.
Add lashings of chopped flat leafed parsley.
Serve. With bread of course, although you probably won't need it. Yum.
What is your favourite soup, or winter warmer dish?

Market Musings

Sunday the 2nd of August was filled with people, colour and atmosphere, at the market, in Hobart. I really enjoy meeting old and new customers, and it's so great to get firsthand feedback on my product.

But aside from the sales, one of the best things about being a stallholder is the other stallholders. There were so many lovely people there yesterday, that I want to share with you their amazing talents.

Here are some of my favs, in no particular order. Feel free to follow their links, you may surprised what you find. Christmas (!) isn't that far away, wouldn't it be good to buy your loved ones a handmade gift this year.

It was great to sit next to the lovely Edwina, of Little Snoring, who makes amongst other goodies, quirky triangle cushions. Edwina makes patchwork look fun and funky! Her stall is always so appealing, and filled with an eclectic and interesting assortment, she makes the cutest pandas!

Narelle, from Ruby Victoria Letterpress, makes the most beautiful and elegant stationary with her letterpress, if you want something special and unique, she's the gal. She's also incredibly reasonably priced! Her lino prints are just stunning.

Anna from Nevanna Designs has gorgeous and bright quilts, cushions and wall hangings, for children's rooms. Lots of fun, the fabrics are high quality, and perfect if you want to re-decorate with style.

Natures Path sell the most beautiful handmade soap, made with Tasmanian grown olive oil, that you will ever find. My favourite is the 'castile' soap, it's so gentle. Every ingredient is chosen for a reason, and there is an honesty, and purity to their products. I'm must admit, I'm becoming addicted! They also sell organic teas, and I'm sure if there soaps are anything to go by, they would be delicious.

Rosie from Notions, has the most gorgeously packaged brooches and bookmarks. I love the way Rosie puts everything together, her display is well thought out, and delightful to look at. Her range, and ideas change frequently, but always peppered with fun.

Rebecca Roth , a multi-talented lass this one, who not only has a hand in running our lovely market, but makes, and moulds the most amazing resin jewellery I have ever seen. The colours are bright and clear, reminding me of seaglass, or lollies.

Lauren, who I met for the 1st time, has Owlet, and creates sweet and gentle clothing for wee ones. I really like her style, and her fairtrade clothing is so soft.

Hideyo take origami to a whole new level. Their stall 'looked' serene, but was actually a hive of activity as people madly flocked to buy their single stemed flowers! Stunning.

The highlight of the day, was when Amber from Fresh Fabric Australia, who I had dealt with online, came and introduced herself, over from the 'mainland' for the weekend. It was lovely to meet her in person, and she saw her fabric being put to good use!
